Ask and Ye Shall Receive...
GF Smith didn't fancy on sending me anything, however Potts Print did, Thanks guys!
I have my very own GF Smith stock library book set. This was sent with a whole collection of various stock samples and GF Smith branding.
Foiling throughout the whole set of stock samples shows that a variety of processes can be used on the stocks which GF Smith supply.
The way in which the individual squares of stock are laid out in this fold out can be overwhelming but shows each piece in relation to another. This can make the decision of wether to choose one sample over another based on the immediate difference in quality
This is not as impressive as the GF Smith set, however it serves a different market, the Lumisilk series supplies a niche market of photo based imagery.
This set is designed specifically for printing photographs with incredible detail and depth through texture. The company uses dark images to show the paper finish in areas of white.

The combination of duplexing and colour in the design gives a consistent aesthetic through the card. The design team want everyone to keep the card for its aesthetics and construction as well as for the information provided on the card.
Edge colouring can be achieved on a small budget via clamping cards together and spray painting the edges, however in the commercial world this is completed with layered stocks.
This piece of stock allows the pressing to be effective because of its weight and construction.
There is some flocking used on his card where a similar process to foiling is used, but instead a velvet fabric sheet is adhered to the stock surface, this has then been pressed into with a metal die in the form of a pattern.
Both a blind deboss and an emboss has been used to play on the eye. The shadows within the recess of the deboss creates the visual of the letterform.

Ordering more stock samples, I am aware that not every company will send samples, therefore I am playing a big numbers game, send many, receive some, rather than send for a few and receive one or none.

Everything from The Exotic Paper Co. is built around being low impact and eco friendly.
The difference in weights and colour from construction is seen in this shot, each sheet is stapled to the next, meaning that you must interact with the tactile stock.
Benwells
A simple net constructed of corrugated card which has one side printed.
Blind embossing with a level of fine detail.
This piece for "KRUG" highlights how much stock can elevate a piece of design and finishing techniques. If the stock was not as high quality with a level of luxury to the touch, the foil blocking would look flat and much less attractive.
This example of thermography shows that a lot of one finishing technique can either overpower the information being communicated or speak loudly on behalf of the information. This example in my opinion grabs attention instantly, when producing a flyer or postcard this attention to detail can mean the difference between the receiver reading, or binning the flyer.
Foil blocking a specific and small area of a template, this requires a die being cut and molded, positioned on a foiling machine (sometimes converted Heidelberg presses) and stamped onto the business card with foil in between the die and the substrate.
Curved corner to card is created by die-cutting
Example of foil blocking
Blind embossing for the jewellery company adds a touch of extra time and effort put into their stationary, and therefore clients would be led to assume that their jewellery would also have a touch of refinement
A small image that shows the indentation created so that card can be folded without tearing.
