alphabet Soup//Typeface Research

A look into script based type has shown me that for the purpose of individual letter forms this is not the route to take. It seems that most are created to form graphically sound sentences instead of stand alone letters. However I have altered the Impact font to be itallic. This has occurred to me after looking at logos for american basketball, baseball and ice hockey teams, having the layout to suit the speed and pace of street culture and sports. I have opted for a large serif font as seen in many logo's of this genre with a fill which automatically gives a stroke to the letterform, I will most likely at this stage opt for a clear stroke which will put emphasis on the fill.

Having a script based font is an avenue I wish to avoid, not only does it throw up the vintage feel but the lack of structure when each letter stands alone is an issue.

The idea of using music equaliser graphics within the stems of the typeface has arisen. As these are predominantly green on black and colour is not allowed within the final piece it will be difficult to allow the street style mixed with music culture jump out.

Having explored the shape of music equaliser graphics and the structure they can give a typeface is a eureka moment! Music is a large part of street culture, fashion influence and my partners (Nigel) personality therefore incorporating the graphic look of music bars into the stems of each letter form will look interesting and dynamic. Colour will only distract from the impact of the font so the colour restriction of the brief will aid my final resolution.
